An AI credit is the unit behind AI autofill: one credit fills one product. Every run of the AI is a real call to a service that costs money to operate, which is why it is the one thing in DPTag that is metered. Credits are sold to everyone, with or without a Pro plan; this page sits in the Pro section because Pro includes a monthly allowance of them.
What is free
Every site gets its first five AI passports free, with no account and no key. Beyond them a run needs credits. Everything else in DPTag, creating, publishing and printing passports, the public pages and the QR codes, is free and unlimited and never touches the network.
Typing a translation yourself is free too. AI translation has its own monthly reserve in Pro, described on the multilingual page.
Buying credits
Credits are bought from the Credits page of your dptag.com account, in one payment, without any subscription. Prepaid credits never expire. The price per credit, the minimum per order and the total are shown there before you pay, VAT included. Unused credits stay refundable for fourteen days after the purchase.
The Pro plan includes an allowance of credits every month, which resets on the first of the month. When a run needs credits, the monthly allowance is used first and the prepaid balance after it, so prepaid credits are only touched once the allowance is gone. Cancelling a plan never takes prepaid credits away.
Telling the plugin which account to bill
Your account key is the licence key shown on the Overview page of your dashboard. The plugin needs it to bill a run to your balance instead of the free sample, and there are two ways to give it:
- With the Pro add-on active, nothing to do: the add-on attaches the key to every AI request itself.
- Without the add-on, paste the key under Passports, then AI credits, in the free plugin, and save. The screen refuses a key that does not look like one rather than keeping it and failing later. Removing the key sends the site back to its free sample.
The key travels only with an AI request, together with the product text, and nowhere else.
Seeing the balance
After each run, the free plugin's AI screens show what the run reported: the free passports left while on the sample, or the credits left on the account once a key is in place. On the dashboard, the Credits page shows the monthly allowance, its reset date and the prepaid balance.
With the add-on, a run on a whole catalogue is quoted before it starts: the panel asks dptag.com how many credits the run needs beyond your balance and shows the shortfall and its exact price, with a link to top up. The quote reads your balance and spends nothing.
Running out mid-way
A run that reaches the end of the credits stops and says so. Nothing is lost: the passports already filled keep their proposals, and the run resumes where it stopped once credits are added. With the add-on, the background run offers the top-up in one click and continues on its own afterwards.
What a credit is not
A credit is charged per successful fill, not per attempt: a run that fails on the network side is not billed. A credit is not needed to re-read proposals, to save them, or to publish; only the call that produces them costs one.
